Verruca Treatment
What is a Verruca?
A verruca is a wart that develops on the sole of the foot, caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). Because of pressure from standing and walking, verrucae often grow inward and may feel like a painful bruise or a small pebble under the foot. They can appear as a single lesion or in clusters and may have tiny black dots in the centre (blocked capillaries). Verrucae are common, contagious, and can persist for months or years without treatment.
Verrutop® Verruca Treatment
Verrutop® is a professional-only topical treatment designed to clear stubborn verrucae and warts. Unlike cryotherapy or acids, it uses a chemical desiccation process that breaks down the infected tissue without causing damage to the surrounding skin. The solution is applied directly to the lesion after gentle debridement, and most patients experience minimal discomfort. Treatments are usually carried out every 7–14 days, with several sessions often required depending on the size and duration of the verruca. Verrutop is suitable for adults and children and is a well-tolerated option for lesions that have not responded to other therapies.
What to Expect and Price?
During your appointment, the verruca will be gently debrided to remove hard skin and allow the treatment to work more effectively. The solution is then applied directly to the lesion. You may feel mild tingling or no discomfort at all.
Over the following days, the area may darken, dry out, or form a small scab, this is normal and shows the treatment is working. You can continue normal activities, but avoid picking at the site.
Most people need a course of treatments spaced 1–2 weeks apart. The number required depends on how long the verruca has been present, its size, and your immune response. Your podiatrist will review progress at each visit and adjust treatment as needed.
While no verruca treatment can guarantee complete removal, most patients see gradual improvement and eventual resolution over the course of therapy.
